At WPQuasar we’re committed to making our customer’s WordPress site backups as seamless as possible. That’s why we now support the popular Google Drive as a Backup-as-a-Service cloud target.
Google Drive is a cloud storage and file synchronization service developed by Google. It allows users to store, sync, and share files across different devices and collaborate on documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and more. Google Drive offers free storage space and integrates with other Google services such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides.
Getting your site backed up to Google Drive is easy. The process goes like this:
1. You create a folder called “MyWebsiteBackups” (or similar) in your Google Drive
2. You share that folder with our Google account (will be provided) with “Editor” access
3. We drop the backup in that shared folder at regular intervals
4. You then have all your site data backed up in your account!
You can then download it locally too if you like.
We can also offer you a quota on how much backup data you would like retained on your Google Drive, and we can remove old backups if they are no longer needed.
The WPQuasar difference
“But there are many WordPress plugins to do this…” we hear you ask. Yes, that is true and yes, that is good. The main difference between our Google Drive backups and one performed by a plugin is we do it at the system level.
Plugin backup tools are specific to a single application, or system component, and are used to backup and restore data within WordPress. They are typically installed and managed within the application itself or through a separate plugin management dashboard. Examples of plugin backup tools include WordPress backup plugins or backup plugins for specific cloud storage providers.
System level backups, on the other hand, are broader and encompass an entire system or server. They are used to backup all data, including settings, configurations, the database and software, and can be used to restore an entire system in case of data corruption or system failure.
They are typically managed through backup software or through the operating system’s built-in backup functionality. System level backups are important for disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
